2 , 3 pin razors in a night.
The first is a Pearl King. Wasn't in too bad a shape. Some patina and pitting on the blade which I removed and duplicated the factory marks. Same for the back. Polished up the scale ( love these cracked ice patterns) and put it back together.

The second post , DD Satinedge was a bit rougher. Cleaned up the blade duplicating the factory texture. Polished the shaft areas and then duplicated the factory look here as well. Lets face it, from the factory they didn't have mirror polishes so I wanted this to be as close as possible.
Also following that idea the common SS washers don't fit here either as they are too large. So I turned down some to match the size of the originals.


The Pearl King. Sorry I don't have before shots but I just dove into it before I stopped and said " I didn't take any before shots"

Well the NOS Para Professional 8/8 Novodur turned up with it's original factory edge took a few photo's before she hit's the hones, got to say she looks fantastic, only thing she came in a EPBD box so I'm on the look out for an original Novodur Para Professional box, I was expecting a duty fee plus parcel force fees of around £90 I had already excepted this when I made the deal, great news she just sailed under the radar no duty postie just handed her over. :-)

I have been using this pre shave oil for the last week with great results , I must admit , and I'm here to tell you , that if you want to spend your money on a good pre shave oil , this could be a great choice.

Lets check its ingredients :

As you can read , this pre shave oil is a combination of natural oils of Avocado , Wheat Germ , Sweet Almond Oil , Sunflower , Jojoba , Grape Seeds...Well , sounds good to me and its more complex than others , like the Art of Shaving ones.

Its presentation is quiet sober , just on a 50ml plastic tube , good if you want to travel with it.

It doesn't have a scent , I mean , it does , but its very subtle. Its not strong like the unscented Art of Shaving pre shave oil.You can smell the natural oils but its not over powering at all.

You also don't need a lot of it , so 50 ml will last you a lot.I have very dry skin ,specially now in winter (oh Utah winter) and I only need 3 drops to cover all my face with it.

Its has a light texture so its not going to clog your razor : actually it will increase the razor gliding , as well as protecting the skin like a champ.

Its price its 9,95 pounds for the 50 ml , but its cheaper than some others like the Truefitt and Hill or the Art of Shaving ones (the AoS comes in bottles of 60 ml)

A great pre shave oil.

It's almost comical how unlucky I have been with the Simpson brush line. After selling my Duke 3, I picked up the world renown Chubby 2 in Super 3-Band Badger. It is one heck of a brush!! I've had it now for a couple weeks and have been thoroughly enjoying its pillow soft and extraordinarily dense knot. It scrubs like no other brush I've encountered and whips up some mean lather.

Then today happened. I went and picked it up off my countertop and something felt off. I turned the brush around and to my horror, this appeared out of nowhere:





Devastated is a word I'd use to describe my emotions. I am at a loss of words and can't afford to spend anymore money on a replacement. I saved for about a month afford this beauty and I know you can't exchange a used product. Do I have any options? I tried to go ahead and use it anyway. I began loading it and after one loss hair, I stopped.

When I first received the brush, I noticed what I thought was a minor scratch in the handle. I didn't think much of it as it really didn't look like anything. I was fine with a minor imperfection within the handmade masterpiece.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I use luke warm water to soak it and don't abuse it in anyway. What did I do wrong and is there anyone with experience repairing a brush handle?

Back home in Norway I'm blessed with pretty soft water, which makes lathering a dream - and it means that face lathering from the GoBag usually makes enough lather for three or four passes if I so desire.

This week I'm in Bavaria, and according to a map I found the water here is - as I suspected - hard... so while the Bavarian Alps are beutifull, I have a hard time making enough lather for a single pass - and have to add more soap for the second

So if didn't already know it, the hardness of the water is rather important for how enjoyable of a shave I get.

Blades for a Parker SR1?

Over the Thanksgiving break, I visited family in Chicago and brought my Parker SR1 in lieu of packing a strop. Three shaves with it and no nicks, but I could never get as close as I get with a straight, particularly in the moustache area. When I bought the razor, I picked up a small box of Lord half-blades, which is pretty much all I have been using with it. More recently, I read comments to the effect that Merkur blades are a bit thicker and will be more like shaving with a coticule edge, etc. So I am wondering, has anyone experimented with the Parker (or similar shavette taking half DE blades) with different blades like this, and how significant was the difference?
