so hot today

So, it has been an unusually mild spring here, and, today was the first hot day.  You would be hard pressed to find more than a handful of warm days, from March, until yesterday.  And, today, nearly 100 degrees F.  I thought I was going to die.

You know what I learned?

Two things:  The NYCT system is, basically, out of service, on the weekends, and, smoke (any kind) is made worse by the heat.  It causes a more intense allergic reaction, more headaches, more nausea, etc.

Hello,

What would be considered kind of an average or medium sized shaving brush in a boar hair shaving brush?

Thank you

What kind of mug is this?

Hi,

Some time ago I was watching a video on YouTube and a guy was using an old-fashioned ceramic crock, enamel or porcelain coated all-metal mug (probably enamel coated I'm guessing). I wouldn't mind finding something like this for a shaving mug myself. Does anyone else out there have one or know what I'm talking about? What exactly would something like this be called, so I could better search for one?

Thank you

Just jumped into this hobby with both feet.... 1 or 2 months ago.
Currently have 8+ DE razors (Including a Timeless, a Guerilla, a Oneblade) and am deperately hunting down a polished wolfman. I already have 5 or 6 brushes, and about 20 soaps. This is bad news...

Moss Scuttle Stopper?

$

I have a large Moss scuttle by Sara Bonnyman, the first scuttle I got, which I like a lot but which does not keep the water as warm as do my Georgetown Pottery scuttles because it does not have a stopper.  The hole for filling the reservoir is not round, which makes finding or fashioning a stopper problematic.  Its dimension are approximately 42mm width by 19mm top depth tapering down to about 12mm.  I have thought about getting a very large rubber plug and cutting it to fit, but I'm not confident that it would fit tightly enough.  Does anyone here have any suggestions for a stopper for this scuttle?  TIA.

I'm looking to buy some gem blades. I was going to place an order online but then thought maybe some of you may have a whole bunch and need to make some room. So if you buy the 100 packs from Connaught or ted pella and need to offload some please let know.

Also if you have some injector blades sitting around, I'd appreciate some of those as well.

Carbon steel pan perfection: De Buyer Mineral B

$

So I was dumping the idea of a carbon steel frying pan/skillet as it has to be seasoned to work well and can't be washed with soap, as soap will strip the seasoning. Not good for an OCD guy like me.......

But my father use a non stick pan each morning for bacon & eggs and he was getting tired of having to exchange his Scanpan yearly (he takes deglazing a pan to a new level of roughness)

He has absolutely ZERO OCD, so he must be the perfect candidate for a carbon steel pan. Hence I bought him a De Buyer Mineral B 28 cm pan.

I helped him with the seasoning, and learned him the guidelines to get the most out of the pan.

It took 6-8 seasonings on the stove and 2 cycles in the oven, using walnut oil as seasoning oil.

I visit my father once a week and cook for him.
First usage the pan excelled.
My father used the pan the following day and eggs did stick a bit. Bacon was seared to perfection.

He follows the De Buyers instructions.
No soap. No soaking of the pan.
No acids. No overly rough cleaning.
Deglaze pan after usage. Dry clean with paper. Add a drop of oil, wipe the pan clean. Put it away.

Now 3+ months later, and my father has used it daily.

I use it weekly.

Conclusion: Best Pan Ever (for the price)

You can't beat it.

I own several Mauviel, Demeyere, Le Creuset and Staub pans.
For the price, the De Buyer Mineral B is the perfect all round frying pan.

I preferably sear steaks/meat in it. PERFECTION.

But you can cook everything in it. Because you can't clean it thoroughly I would avoid cooking smelly things in it, like fat fish (salmon), but the pan master everything.

I'm so impressed that I just bought 2 De Buyer Mineral B 32 cm pans, one for my father and one for my girl friend.

I will use both pans. And enjoy it.

Is it as non stick as the best non stick pans ?
No, not at first.
But after 20-30 times of daily cooking, it becomes more and more non stick.

It heats up reasonably fast, but copper and PLY are much faster.
It retains heat very well, but cast iron retains heat better.

It sears very evenly.
The handle only gets a little bit hot.

The pan is very thick, yet it weighs only 75% of similar sized pan in cast iron.

Rating overall: 9.5 / 10

New From Mergress -Bronze Knob Edition

The Bronze Knob Mergress razors are here.

Mergress Razors have been an icon in the wet shaving community since 2006. Eric "Mer" Maier takes a Merkur Progress razor and improves upon it by taking it apart, smoothing out the action, calibrating the razor, adding a machined metal knob and a blue adjustment dot.

The Bronze knob Mergress is Eric's latest release. Rather than using a stainless steel knob, he utilizes a polished bronze adjustment knob. This razor has both form and function. It shaves like a dream and will look great in your shave cave.

Like all Mergress razors, this adjustable razor will dial in everything from mild to wild with everything in between.

Paladin Shaving next release

All brushes sold yesterday were posted this morning, and we received a box of handles from Corvallis in time, hopefully, to pull off one more release before we take a hiatus for Cody's wedding. We're shooting for Thursday, June 15.

Here are couple of not great photos of the handles just removed from the box. Note the new guys, which include a 26 mm Sumo, a 28 mm Buck Rodgers, and the Cleo (of which I'll post more later). Those who read Egyptian hieroglyphics will, of course, identify Cleo by her cartouche.  Apologies for the Stepford-esque sameness.
