Would a SE be better?

I have used the Cadet OC and it is very efficient but seems a little too close(not as smooth). I have a Gillette SC and it seems to be a little less than the Cadet but a lot smoother. I have also a Black Beauty that is set at 8 but still leaves a lot to touch up but smoother than the Cadet. It seems like I need something that shaves as close as the Cadet and as smooth as the Gillette SC. Now most of my shaves are 2 passes it seems my face does not like 3 passes. On the face its WTG and ATG and on my neck is XTG and XTG seems to do the best if go ATG on the neck always get nicks or rough areas.

Would a SE GEM, Injector or Cobra fit in here somewhere?

My Quest for the Perfect Razor

My Quest for the Perfect Razor

I have a very light beard and sensitive skin. As a matter of fact I didn’t even start shaving until I was 22 years old. I probably still wouldn’t be shaving if it weren’t for Sgt. Brown. He stood over me every morning and watched me shave. He certainly could never tell if I shaved or not just by feeling my face. Eventually, he caught on that I didn’t have a blade in the razor and after a few more weeks my first facial hairs emerged. Had he not discovered my blade ruse I probably would still be a non-shaver.

I started with a Gem single edge razor, cheap boar brush and an English soap in a wooden bowl. Eventually, I caved into advertising and peer pressure moved to multiple blade cartridges and canned foam. After years of lousy shaves and not realizing why they had become lousy I grew a beard.

A few years ago I decided to get back into wet shaving. My first razor was a Merkur 34C HD. I liked the razor and shave immediately. After a while I began to think perhaps what I love is getting back into wet shaving and there might be better razors out there. Hear the RAD starting? Perhaps a more aggressive razor would give me a faster cleaner shave with no burn. Enter a Merkur 37C slant. Wrong, wrong, wrong. My face looked and felt like hamburger. The slant found a new home in my son-in-law’s bathroom. Next razor was The Cobra. I thought I had finally found my true love. I even had the razor gilded. Darn thing looks like a wedding ring. My difficulty with the Cobra however was my light beard. The Feather blades were just too aggressive for my face. Finally, I discovered if I used the least aggressive Feather blade (Feather Pro-Guard) and shaved very carefully with it for the first 3 shaves. The blade would dull down enough for me to get 10 to 15 wonderful shaves out of it. I thought my quest was finally over. Not to be.

Next I reasoned I am getting such great shaves from a single edge blade that is used in the Cobra. Why not try a straight razor? So I bought a Dovo straight and all the stuff that goes with it. Now realize I am the kind of guy who can’t be trusted with a zipper fly. The result was a disaster for my face. The rest of me was spared as I knew enough to stick with my button fly. A few plastic surgeries later and I was a new man. Even my dog did not recognize me.

I began to reason if the Cobra was a bit too aggressive with a new blade in it perhaps a razor where I could adjust the aggressiveness of the razor would be the answer. Enter a Merkur Futur in gold to match the gold Cobra. The Futur with a Feather blade in it and set at 2 gave me an excellent shave. The only problem the head was a little too large to fit under my nose and the razor was not aggressive enough in my problem areas under my chin. Finally, the handle was too smooth and always felt as though it would slip out of my hands. Soon I found a solution to all my problems except for the slipperiness issue (I did consider sandpapering my finger tips). I shaved most of my face with the Futur set on 2. My upper lip and problem area I shaved with The Cobra. By the time the blade in the Futur needed changing the blade in the Cobra was perfect for shaving. I shaved the next 10 to 15 shaves with The Cobra and all was right with the world. I thought my quest was finally over. But nooooo!
I started reading about SS razors. I was intrigued. I could buy a Shavecraft 101 cheaply. Use an open comb razor which I had yet to try and if I didn’t like the head I still have a SS handle and could get an iKon slant head for the stainless steel handle. Simple cheap plan right? I received the 101 shaved a few times with it and found the SB side way too mild. I had to go over my problem areas more than a few times to get the area smooth. Unfortunately, this procedure left the area too sensitive. The open comb was OK but not the holy grail of shaving I sought. Besides the head of the 101 was not SS and I had a SS handle.

Perusing the Sale Forum one day I noticed someone had an iKon slant head for sale. Completely forgetting my previous experience with the Merkur Slant I immediately purchased the head. Two shaves later I found myself back in my Plastic Surgeons office. I noticed the name on my chart now reads Mr. Potato Head. Not to be deterred I have a Feather AS-D2 on order. Report to follow. Stay tuned film at 11.

Does anyone use Pure Badger brushes?

I am really just curious.

Many years ago when I starting shaving "properly," I did enough research to lead me to badger brushes and that was it. Knew nothing about the different badger hair grades other than cost, and for several years I used a Pure Badger (I call those the dark ages Biggrin). Fortunately I have come a long way since then and many excellent (for me) brushes now reside in my den. I still own a Pure Badger brush, and used it the other day to test lather a soap I just got. I couldn't believe how different it felt compared to all the rest of my brushes I use now. Kind of unpleasant actually...

As I'm wrapping up my SBAD for the year, I noticed many reputable manufacturers carry Pure Badger grades in their line up. I have never used one from them, so I was wondering if there's anyone out there that did/does and what your experience was like.

Finally decided to let this one go, it takes valuable real estate and I never use it. $55 plus actual shipping. PM me with your location and I will get you the price, it's about 4-5 pounds when packed. Beautiful scuttle for cheap and with no wait time.
Blue rim on spice with web ridges, outside 6" wide x 3.75" high, bowl opening 4.5" wide x 2" deep, 30 oz. water reservoir. It was explained to me that 2 "scratch-like marks" on the bottom from the potter tools, it does not affect performance.

WTT AoS Lavender for new Valobra Cake in Unscented

I have an NOS cake of Valobra-made (tallow-based) Art of Shaving Lavender soap, in the original shrink wrap and box. It does not include the wooden bowl.

I would be willing to trade my AoS Lavender for a cake of the new Valobra Unscented with the jar, if anyone would include the latter in an upcoming order from one of our vendors.

(I'm not fond of lavender and my last cake of AoS lavender was too strongly scented for me.)

Thanks for the consideration -

So I bought two ATT Razors, Kronos and Atlas with R and M plates.
I tried shaving with Kronos handle trying both Heads with Astra SP and Personna Hu.

Both trials finish with very irritated skin and weepers, I might sell them and buy Feather as my Favourite is Feather Portable but is tab bit aggressive still. It is so hard to get not irritation shave for me.. I want to have DE I am able to shave comfortably ( Cobra should be with me any day now too).

I am upset. I will try one more approach

I used :

ABCBA and KMF Cool Mint, L7 Chef and as prep GFT Skin Food.

Imperial Grip - A Prototype

For some time, I was not restoring or making many brushes due to family emergencies / commitments and a large work load. One that I did make during that time was a prototype from some scrap parts I obtained from a local hardware store. The case is chromed with grey matted ribs. The photos pretty much speak for themselves. It had such a good grip in the hand, I decided to name this brush. I have been using it off and on for the past four weeks or so. Good flow through and is a soap killer. Great backbone but soft at the tips with just a small amount of scritch. For me this is a more rare occasion brush, but it is really nice.

So without further discussion ...

Hi Guys:

The truth of the matter is that I don't want to sell this brush, but my finances are pretty lousy right now, so I gotta do what I gotta do.

This is one of the best all-around 2-band brushes on the market. It has a dense knot with very soft tips (no, not gel-tips), medium to high backbone and good flow-through for a big brush. It has very good scrub and no scritch.

Specs: 30.25mm knot x 53mm loft x 49mm handle height.

I don't think this brush ever shed a single hair, even when it was new. The original box is included, but the little yellow label fell off and I don't know where it is.

Retail is $289 - your price, including conus shipping, is $215.

RazoRock "Mudder Focker" shaving soap

Hey, gentlemen, just a quick question: Does anybody know whether Joe or RazoRock have any plans to re-release this soap? I never purchased a puck because I didn't like the name at all.

However, recently I acquired a small amount of it in trade with another member, and I used it this morning and loved it. I understand that it is no longer in production.

It seems like it was a popular soap. That's why I was wondering whether they might bring it back? I have no way of proving this, but I think the soap might've sold better if it had a less polarizing name. Maybe Joe could bring it back, but re-think the naming???
