I got into this insanity of collecting DEs in 2007. After initially going for vintage Gillettes I found the slants (twisted head) and if it wasn't a slant I didn't want it. Then got into straight razors for years. Came back to the DEs with all of these great stainless models by Wolfman, Timeless, Blackbird and ATT. 

So I like aggressive razors and hear that the Ikon Tech is the one to get, but I read somewhere that they don't make the aggressive one anymore. So is that correct ? Which Ikon Tech (stainless) do I need to look for to get the one everyone compares to a Muhle R-41 2011 ?

Tom had an interesting thread in March and April, called "Making a Brush", in which he detailed the process of designing and making his own handles.  In that thread, he made both cement and wood handles.

Tom was generous and gave me one of his cement handles.  I was delighted to get a unique handle made by one of our members.  Here is the handle after it arrived.

 

 

I decided I would put a 24mm synthetic knot in the handle.  I happened to have a new 24mm Plisson type knot which I had no plans for, so I decided to try that first.



It then occurred to me that the grey cement handle would look good with one of the black synthetic knots.  I had never tried these black synthetic knots, so here was a good reason to order one.  When the knot arrived I set it to a 54mm loft, which I felt would be good for this knot.  As I expected, the black knot and grey cement handle go together well.
 
 



First shave was with the Asylum Old Virginia soap.  Handle, knot and soap all performed superbly.  Just starting to face lather in this shot. 



At the end of a 3-pass shave.



I appreciate Tom giving me this handle, and it's another illustration of what a great community we have at TSN.  This handle has the most character of any of the brushes in my den, and after only one shave I know it's a keeper.

I got a new mug, today.  I am super-excited, about my shave, for tomorrow morning.  This is just a regular mug that says "I Love New York," but, with a Heart for the word "Love," and, the letters 'N', and, 'Y', for New York. 

So, yeah.  I also want a Darth Vader mug.  Actually, I want a mug for each "Star Wars" character, who was inspired by ancient mythology.

Greetings,

I am offering my newly acquired BBS-1 #357 Stainless Steel) for trade. The razor is in immaculate condition and had only a dozen shaves on it. I waited for a year to get it, but could not get as comfortable a shave as I hoped for. I am looking for a Wolfman razor in titanium or antique bronze in perfect condition with matching stand. My preferences are SB, .67 gap, brushed with a WRH7, but I would consider an OC and a WRH2 as well. Please send me a PM if interested. Once again : Short explanation for TSN members... You may have already seen items by me listed elsewhere posted under the name Izen. Believe it or not, I'm a recent member at a few other shaving forums and have no transactional feedback on those sites. When I joined here a few years ago I chose the username RobE (Rob; my first name is Robert, E is the first letter of my last name)... all this minutia aside, I have a history here... and so, I'm sure you all can forgive me and understand why the name in the photos below doesn't correspond to my username here (which I would change to Izen if I could).

Kent Infinity Silvertex Synthetic Shaving Brush - $24.99 at WCS. A few years old, very clean, nice condition. I always liked the handle. Brush is very soft. I've never had a problem with any soap and my goto is MWF. Creams & croaps are easy. This synth was a big improvement in its day but (imho) not the equal of today's best synthetics. I shouldn't say 'equal', it's different and still a nice brush to have in a pinch or for travel or backup. Original plastic box not in great shape but the brush is !!!

Colonel Conk Santa Fe Shave Cup #111 - $22.99 at WCS, but honestly, this can be found online (with the Amber Glycerin Soap) for about $15.00. The Soap included here is a few years old but unused and still good. The bowl, I should say cup is really (seriously) really very nice for what it is. The condition is indistinguishable from new. It will be securely packed. Guaranteed to arrive intact.

West Coast Shaving Natural Collection Rosewood & White Ash Razor Handle. Model 37WS - $16.98 at WCS. This is new & unused. New as in, 'has never had a razor head attached to it ever before'. Personally, I've taken to using the WCS model 38W on my Feather AS-D1. I think these handles are terrific. I like a longer handle. This length allows a variety of different grips a short handle can't provide. These handles are super light (about 38 gms.) allowing a handling precision that can't be had with considerably heavier metal handles. Personally (speaking for myself), I'm not of the school that says, "no pressure, let the weight of the handle do the work". I think that's nonsense. The head does the work. BBS is about precision in technique and 'feel'. A light handle allows for that precise feel of pressure that's often needed in varying degrees. Despite lack of knurling, the wood provides a fine grip, even with wet hands. Soapy hands, not so much. If you're a gent that would never consider a handle like this; who thinks a DE razor handle needs to be a thick, knurled and all metal. I suggest you might reconsider this as an interesting & worthy addition to your shave den.
