Ginger's Garden Glycerin shaving soap http://gingersgarden.com/ is a real standout for me. Tallow shaving soaps tend to get most of the praise but there are some excellent soaps out there that do not contain this almost mythic ingredient. Ginger's Garden Glycerin is one of those shaving soaps. The price, at US$6.00 (or, for tax purposes, US$6.53 if you live in California), for a 4 oz. puck is certainly competitive with other artisan soap makers and shipping was quite modest at only US$2.95. Delivery took just a couple of days. I was e-mailed the day after I placed my order that it had shipped.

Packaging is now done with a shrink wrap plastic so is very basic but this probably helps keep costs down. While I preferred her former use of a paper covering (this is my second puck of the soap) the quibble is a minor one.

I find this soap one of the easier to lather and I can build enough lather for a 3-pass shave. For me, there is no irritation and skin care is excellent with just enough moisturizing to not dry out my skin. Slickness is quite good and my razor doesn't tug or pull.

I happen to like floral scents so I asked for Lilac and Irena, owner of Ginger's Garden, was able to accommodate me. Other scents are available.

If tallow isn't your holy grail in a shaving soap then you might want to consider giving a puck of Ginger's Garden a try.
