Good evening Gentle-folk!
I write this when I should be revising, as I have an exit exam to prepare for. So I'll be brief!
Please excuse my over exuberance in posting on the 'wanted' section, before introducing myself... Forum faux pas... The sign of a desperate man! My apologies!
So, who is this chap - you ask?
Well, resident in Blightie, I aspire to being a Gentleman (having yet to achieve it). Hence, I have a list of things an English-man should achieve to be "a gentleman"...
...you may have your own list... But mine is as follows (in no particular order)...
I. Be satisfied with 'enough'
II. Give my children the time that they need (& more)
III. Consistently open doors & stand for a lady
IIIa. Tie a bow tie.
IV. Gracefully Waltz.
V. Consistently roll-cast accurately (to the wiliest trout).
VI. Hone & shave with a straight in two passes (and teach my son to do the same).
VII. Train my dogs to work with a Harris hawk (or two)
VIII. Suture ambidextrously.
IX. Remember "Rules of the Road" (and proper RN sword-drill)
X. Light a fire with flint & steel.
Bonus points can be awarded if...
I manage to build a Birch-bark canoe & get my knee down on a round-about (on a Ducati 916 Senna)!
So, apart from being somewhat idiosyncratic, I love Blightie as much as you love your home (I even love the rain). Equally, I'm passionate about that ten minutes of Zen we all adore as the DE sings as it passes over Buccinator...and the scent of sandalwood refreshing our senses as we collect our thoughts for the coming day.
Gentlemen, thank you for allowing me into this shared retreat. I hope I can contribute and perhaps give insight into this humble Isle so green.
Kindest regards,
Yours Aye!
Simon
