First Shave with Barrister & Mann

Picked up their sample pack last week, finally got around to lathering some up!

Prep: Mashed the sample into one of my bowls, gave it a soak in hot water for a couple of minutes. Soaked my brush and face in cold water (I shave exclusively with Cold Water).

Proceeded to load my Two-Band Vie Long (my favorite face-lathering brush), ended up loading for about 40 seconds. Soap picked up nicely on the brush, straight to my wet face for lathering.

Lather came on quick and heavy and was tempted to go ahead and shave, but held off and kept working in some more water.

1st pass went well - very good protection and cushion, although it did dry out a hair by the end of my pass.

2nd pass I worked even more water in, got another really nice shave and just a little drying at the end of my pass.

3rd pass I loaded up a bit more water, worked up a really nice, thick, protective lather that finally didn't dry out (this soap is thirsty!).

I should mention that I shaved with my Gillette Senator today, not my normal routine, as it is a fairly aggressive razor. B&M did a great job protecting me - no nicks or weepers, no post-shave irritation.

Soap has a nice post-shave moisturizing affect (decided not to use Aftershave).

In short, this an excellent tallow soap that imho compares favorably with my favorites (Mike's, Mystic Water, Pannacrema). Based on my one shave, its a little easier to lather than Mike's (and of course Mystic Water), is comparable in shave quality and post shave feel.

I used the Lime/Lavender/Cedarwood today as it was my favorite - nice clean, natural smell to it (you can tell these are quality essential oils), and just a little more subdued than Mike's or Mystic Water.

Don't see how you can go wrong with this one at $14 shipped for a sample of each of their soaps!
