EDIT: Updated with some product photos and extra links/thoughts/info
Let's do a round up of who uses what for their photos and video - this may prove useful to relative noobs such as myself who are looking to improve their hobby photography.
I'll start:

Nikon photo of a D70 with kit lens - circa 2003
Nikon D70 Digital SLR - "bush camera" More than 10 years old, this one almost qualifies as "vintage"
I will often take it on hiking trips using a special mount to secure it to the sternum strap of my rucksack, daypack or hydration pack. I'll typically use an 18-70mm as a good all round lens.

Nikon photo of a D200 with kit lens - circa 2006
Nikon D200 Digital SLR - My "civilised camera" prior to the acquisition of the D3200 below. Images are not as high pixel-count as more modern DSLRs but like the D70 they are fine for web and social media use.

Nikon image of D3200 with kit lens - circa 2012
Nikon D3200 Digital SLR - A very recent acquisition, this one has a massive 24Mp resolution, intuitive controls and offers full 1080P HD video capability with external mic input - making it a low-cost, easily-replaceable image acquisition platform for the kind of quick and dirty documentary style filmmaking I prefer. Oh, yeah photos are great too ;)

GoPro Hero 3 Black edition
GoPro Hero3 Black Edition action video camera - Waterproof, lightweight unobtrusive and easy to use - particularly with the GoPro control app on my phone.

Griffin Technologies image of Samsung Galaxy S4 in their Survivor case
Galaxy S4 phone with onboard 13MP still camera and full HD 1080P video capability. Carried in a rugged Griffin Survivor case, the phone gives great photos and video in the more remote locales I may travel through. Replaceable battery allows spares to be taken along and the external MicroSD card storage puts it miles ahead of the iPhones as an outdoors imagery acquisition platform.

Camera FV-5 Screen capture showing interface
The photography app I use is "Camera FV-5" allows RAW format image capture and is almost as good as the iOS "Pureshot" app. Seriously, if you run iOS on an iPhone4 or later, the PureShot app will open a whole new world for you.

The "Photosniper" kit
Zenit-E 35mm film SLR - part of the "Photosniper" set with riflestock and big and clunky Soviet 300mm zoom lens. I am adapting the Photosniper to use my Nikon cameras (simply requires an inexpensive "M42 to Nikon" lens adapter and some fiddling with the shutter-release "trigger"). The leftover camera is what I will use to teach myself 35mm film photography. It's a fully featured SLR with built-in light meter and hotshoe for a flash. The Photosniper set came with a smaller Helios lens which works just fine on both the Zenit and on my Nikons with the M42 adapter. M42 is the same lens mount as Pentax cameras, so the next few years will see a veritable odyssey of inexpensive vintage lens collecting by Yours Truly :)

Kiev 4A Rangefinder camera
Kiev 4A 35mm rangefinder camera (commie copy of the German Contax II) - these are a classic camera type - think Hemingway and Paris. It takes the same film as the Zenit-E and has a bunch of funky vintage accessories available - most parts are also interchangeable with pre-and-WWII-era Contax II cameras. This camera has a fascinating history. See http://www3.telus.net/public/rpnchbck/zconrfKiev.htm for the scoop.
So that's me. What do you use and what's your rationale?
