Impressions-My First Slant Shave

This week my new Merkur 37 slant showed up, and I waited until today to take it on its maiden voyage. After the due diligence of proper razor blade loading, and general shaving techniques, I was ready to go.

MdC was chosen as the soap, and the blade was the PolSilver SI's. The soap is a natural choice for me, as it has always been a lather bomb (same as Da Fat). The SI blades were selected due for another reason. I have always found them a bit harsh for me, wether I have an OC, a TTO, or my Mergress in hand. Quite a few people have commented on a sharp blade choice for the Slant, so why not try the SI now?

Results? Very impressive. I keep rubbing my face, as if the fine shave couldn't be true. I love my razors, and though they all perform well in their selected role, the Slant is quite the instrument. No nicks, cuts, weepers at all. The most important task for me going in was to realize I would concentrate on my technique, and it paid off.

The Slant was used as any other razor in my quiver. Same pattern of WTG, ATG,XTG and I was done. Much like an OC the Slant needs careful attention under my schnoz. That was it, all done, and a good dose of Captain's Choice Lime Bay Rum later, I kissed my bride good morning!
