muuuaaahhhh!!

The transplant of the SoC to the an oscar11 handle is done and was a success! Another Frankenbrush is alive!

The SoC is my favorite brush, by a pretty long margin. I had one in rotation and two backups. The oscar11 brush handle is my preferred handle. Love the cobalt blue/black combo, longer length and knobby feel, but it had a TGN synthetic knot that I never quite fell in love with. About six seconds in the microwave and the glue softened enough that the knot fell out, and apart. No love lost. A small amount of glue needed to be cleaned up from the hole.



Unfortunate that the SoC knots are not available for purchase, but that shouldn't stop anyone from hacking up a perfectly good SoC cherry handle to release the knot, right? Cut the bulk off with a band saw. Gentle tap with a chisel to split the top of the handle and some sanding with a Dremel and the knot is freed.

Once the knot was out, what I find is the silver collar is integral to a metal cup into which the knot is glued. hmm, that isn't going to work for me..a black handle with silver collar? Paint it? Sharpie? Nah, I have power tools, I'll remove it.

With knot out and collared, I tapered and flattened the bottom so the work on the handle would be minimal.



Amazingly, I didn't sacrifice a single hair while grinding off the collar.

The hole in the handle needed to be widened by about 1mm and deepened by about 8mm. Forstner bits to the rescue along with some fine sanding.



A glob of two part waterproof epoxy in the handle; press fit and make sure it's straight (made that mistake before) and BOOM!

Total build time was well under an hour.
