I am a coffee afficionado - but I don't drink it... Let me explain:
I have always loved the scent of the different coffees and their alluring stories. I can't drink it, but I still enjoy going to the various coffee houses near my town and love to experience the story-telling and smells that each variety brings. I went to Italy in 2006 and sat in the Cafe di Vincenzo in Venice and watched and listened as the proprietor told his customers the correct way to make "Mocha", which I believe is what we call Espresso. It is a ground coffee made in a small purcolator similar to what we Cuban-American's use (Cafe Bustelo).
I have to say that of all the varieties of Coffee the best scented ones IMO are from Argentina. I don't know what specifically it is that makes them smell so good, but man..they are intoxicating! There is a variety called "La Plata" that is very dark and has a beautifully burnt scent to it, but it is not a sharp burnt...more of a wet-burnt scent, if that makes sense...it reminds me of a fresh rain on a coniferous fire area.
Another of my favorites is from Rosario and is called "La Bandera". This is a blond roast and smells completely different than the one above...it is more of a cafe mocha type scent and has sweeter notes with coconut in it...
My wife thinks I'm insane...we have a Scentsy warmer, and I warm the coffee beans in it and it is absolutely heavenly in my office...She can't smell anything...must just be me...
I enjoy my coffee every morning, but not in the traditional sense...I use it as an additive to my bath water. I used to suffer from horrible rheumatoid arthritic pain in both my hands...I'm only 46, so age is likely not a huge factor...probably genetic more than anything else, but since using it in my bath water I have noticed that my hands hurt less, especially in the cold months when it used to be unbearable!
Is there anyone on here that doesn't like the scent of coffee?
