FS: Schwarzweisskeramik XL Scuttle

For sale is a beautiful white Schwarzweisskeramik (SWK) XL size scuttle, in pristine condition, accompanied by two matching soap lids for storing your soaps. This scuttle will keep your lather nice and warm for your shaves throughout the year.

SWK scuttles are wheel-thrown and hand-crafted from stoneware clay. They are fired in an oxidizing atmosphere at 1220°C. The glazes are food, microwave and dishwasher safe. All their scuttles feature grooves for greater ease of lather production.
This white scuttle has a very clean appearance and will complement any room decor.

The scuttles made by SWK are double-walled, i.e. there is a hollow between the outer wall and the inner bowl form, into which the warm water is filled via the "brush basin" on the side. When the hollow is filled, the water also fills the brush basin and can be accessed there with the brush when additional water is needed. This makes it very easy to vary the water content of your lather.

It is recommended that the scuttle is prewarmed in the way a teapot is, by initially filling the hollow and the inner bowl with warm water (no hotter than 70°C/160°F) so that the material can store the warmth. After about 5 minutes the water is poured out and replaced by hot water. The scuttle will then keep the lather pleasantly warm throughout the shave.

The soap can be pre-warmed, too: upside-down in warm water


or with the soap facing up.


During the shave, the soap lid can be stored in the brush basin


or on the counter. After the shave, the lid is stored in the scuttle


or on a lid rest or dish.


The XL-scuttle is the flagship of the SWK fleet. It holds as much water and lather as the L-scuttle, but it features a big, practical handle allowing the user to carry the scuttle (even filled with water) without difficulty.

It is recommended for medium-sized to large brushes.
