This is my latest custom brush restoration by Gary D. Carrington. The photo in the upper left shows it in its original condition and after a thorough cleaning by Gary. He was able to trace its lineage to a German brush maker. The original line had a logo that appears to be from Muhle and the words "Rein Dachs", which means "Pure Badger" in German.
As seen below, Gary did an exceptional restoration job. The final configuration:
20mm knot
50mm loft
Custom 2-band badger knot
I've used the brush now for a week. The size and configuration are perfect for me. It has excellent backbone and density, and handles any soap or cream I throw at it. Face- and bowl-lathering are a breeze, and it is certainly the most beautiful of the 30 or so brushes I own. It is now occupying a permanent place among the three brushes in my daily rotation.
I am waiting for Christian Muller to return from holiday to determine if this 1930s-era brush is, in fact, one of Muhle's early models. As a big fan of their brushes, this will be an even more treasured acquisition if it is.
Thank you, Gary, for keeping me in mind!
