Hi, so im 3 weeks into DE shaving. I did 9 days with my Merkur 34C HD and 9 days with my Gillette Slim. The last 3 days with my slim i used the following setip/prep.
Wash with Glycerin soap
American Crew Preshave oil
Proraso Red shave cream
Badger Brush (soaked in mug for 5 min in hot water)
Face lather
Gillette Slim with Astra SP blade.
1st pass WTG
2nd pass XTG (ear to nose)
3rd Pass XTG (nose to ear, this is almost like an ATG)
Some touch ups.
Nivea Sensitive Post Shave Balm
So the most recent 3 days on the slim ive still noticed some irritation and a few nicks. Not too terribly impressed with the slim to be honest.
Now the interesting part. On Sat i replaced the slim with my 1960 Fatboy. I kept all other parts of my prep the same. I put in a fresh Astra Blade so everything the same, just switched razors.
Well i noticed immediately the shave was smoother. I had no irritation and no nicks!
So im asking fellow forumers, why is this? My skill didnt suddenly improve overnight. I already stated that every other part of my routine remained the same so it cant be due to that.
Maybe the fact that the fatboy is heavier with the head even heavier, caused me to use even less pressure. (i was conscious of using as little pressure as possible on my slim too.) The balance seems to feel better for me on the Fatboy. Could the higher domed head design be a factor?
Ive used the fatboy for 3 days now and it stills feels better than what i was getting on the slim. FYI the slim and fatboy are both in excellent shape with even blade gap etc.
Any thoughts/comments are welcome.
