Well some of you I am sure know by now that I am the kind of person who likes value for my money (OK I'm CHEAP!). Some time ago the wonderful host of this site started carrying this fine product and I could not help but give it a try. I have been using it for quite some time now and it has occurred to me that not much information is around about this product be it good or bad.
I have been a Thayers alcohol free WH guy for a very very long time. It is IMHO the perfect aftershave. Everything I love about Thayers is also present in this aftershave and face tonic but it has ,IMHO, better skin care. Now for me to say that about a splash isn't easy. But it has grown on me with every use.
The only downside is that it is twice as expensive. Actually I should rephrase that and say it is only half as inexpensive. Is it twice as good as Thayers? No! But in things like this doubling the price never gets twice the results.
To give you some idea about how good I think it is I would rank it as good as my RazoRock 888 aftershave wax.( Which I think extremely highly of) It falls short of Krampert's finest ( Bay Rum or Frostbite) But ahead of my Thayers. All of these leave most of my splashes in the dust. From Barbon,Figaro, D.R. Harris, to Penhaligon's and everything in between.
For Value I gave a 4. It's a big bottle for 17 bucks. but so is Thayers at half the price.
For Quality I say 5. It is a wonderful product that does a magnificent job at being an aftershave!
Packaging I give a 5 as well. Not because it is a luxury package but because of it being a wonderful example of form following function. A pleasant enough design that uses a plastic bottle with the perfect restriction for a squeeze bottle. You can get exactly the amount you want with no waste.
Scent is a 3 for me. A pleasant enough citrus scent that is a bit muddled but faint. And I mean Faint! And it fades fast! Now some people won't like this. But I want my Aftershave's scent to be gone or very very faint rather quickly. If i want to smell of something I will use something that smells good on top of my aftershave ( Even then I don't want anything too overpowering). I want my aftershave to care for my skin after I shave! And this does the trick.
OK Skin care I am giving a 4. I should give it a 5 but Krampert's is a 5 for me and there is separation between the two for me. Take away Krampert's and it would be a 5.
Moisturizing is a 5 for me. It doesn't leave any oily or slick feeling but it does leave what I will call a very faint waxy protective feeling. It's almost imperceptible but I feel it for a half hour or so after application.
No menthol cooling or alcohol burn. None! Just soothing comforting goodness.
It will not be for everyone. Especially if you like your aftershave to be your cologne too. Or if you like a burning or cooling sensation. But if you have used witch hazel to good effect in your routine then this stuff would be great to try. Nothing fancy here just does what it says it will do and does it very very well.
