Death

BEEP, BEEP, BEEP! Our alarm went off at 4:00 am and my wife and I groggily got up to catch a red eye to Hawaii to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I began this non-routine morning with a routine shave....lather up, shave my face, put my beloved shaving mug awa.....slip and a CRACK! OH NO!!!!!!! Yes, my beloved oversized shaving mug took a tumble into our sink and broke. I had bought this mug from QED when I began shaving and it became an old friend real fast. I could whip up lather in this mug like a baker whipping up cream. A good shaving mug/bowl/scuttle/etc is really the transportation to a good shave.

Sexy Scuttles

I searched high and low to find a new mug. I started off where I began with my original mug, at QED, to no avail. Gibson had stopped making this particular mug and I was heartbroken. So I did what any normal shave geek would do, search the forums for the next best thing. I finally settled on a Georgetown Scuttle G20....I thought that this sexy scuttle would be perfect for me. But when it arrived, I found it to be a little more Kim Kardashian (big bottom) than to my liking, so the quest continued. I searched high and low for mugs, scuttles, bowls, you name it until one day, I came across Steve Woodhead ceramics, and oh boy...I am sure glad I did. I finally found my British scuttle. Even in my wife's requested color (white), she is magnificent:

Love

After about a week at sea, she arrived from the UK (pretty fast shipping!). I was apprehensive about her size, but she ended up being absolutely perfect And man, can she keep lather warm (up to 10 minutes!). She's as good of a scuttle as I could have asked. It was love at first sight!

For those who are not familiar with Steve Woodhead, he is a renowned author, a well known pottery maker in the UK (over 25 years in the business), and an overall nice guy. I was pretty apprehensive at first, not knowing which size I should get. There's 1, 2, 2+, 3, and the tall. I ordered the 2 and it was really big enough. It was very similar in size to the shaving mug that broke. The cost of the scuttle is quite reasonable (even with shipping), and the craftsmanship is definitely "there". Steve provided great customer service, answering all of my questions, sending me a few different pictures (so that I could figure out which size to get), etc. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend his scuttles if you are looking for one.
