This makes absolutely no sense to me!

I've been noticing it for some time. No doubt this effect was there for me for quite some time, but I hadn't noticed it until recently. It still has me stumped as to why however.

I can use a pre-'12 gillette made aggressive by a shim or 2 and it'll tear my face up. OK, that's an exaggeration, but I always get at least a few weepers in rough sections of skin.

I can pick up a Muhle '11 R41 and no weepers. Or I can use ANY SE razor in the cabinet and no weepers. But pick up a milder razor with a shim or 2 and it never fails.

Maybe my technique? I know it's a non-aggressive razor, so I relax and do things I shouldn't? That's all I can think of. It's the only thing that makes sense to me but I can't catch myself doing it. I have been busier than a one armed paper hanger lately, so maybe it's that I'mm allowing my mind to wander since it's a less aggressive razor.

Other than that, there is the more flexible DE blade, but that doesn't explain why I can shave with no blood with the '11 R41. Heck, it's the very same blade taken out of the Gillette and put into the Muhle.

Can you suggest anything else that I may not be seeing?

I have one obvious suggestion for me, and it would be painless... remove the vintage Gillettes from the cabinet. I could do that very easily since I don't use them very often.

Nope not the city ! I have been wet shaving for quite a few years now and am also a vintage razor collector. I am very involved in the wet shaving community and am the administrator for a face book online group. I prefer hard soaps over creams , but certain creams are just awesome. Finally I love a great boar brush and seem over time to have veered towards boar over badger, but again certain badger brushes I have fell in love with as well. Outside of wet shaving I am a avid home brewer and have been featured by the American brewers association as well as win national awards. I hope to learn as well as contribute as much as possible in the forum and look forward to making new friends and hanging out with the guys here I already know.

Hello folks
Just signed up and been DE shaving for about 18 months and am a member of TSR forum and regularly participate for the same sort of period (post under username ollie9091)
Shaving is a necessity to me, so DE shaving makes it an enjoyable but expensive. This tied in with my other interest, Coffee/espresso, means regular packages coming through the post, but coffee seems to be the more expensive of the two
Like many of you I have amassed more shaving gear than I could ever need but not as much as I want!
Looking forward to joining your community

Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Budo ink

I received a Chanukah gift from Phil (PhilNH5) and his wife, Mary Lou. It arrived this afternoon after traveling from Japan.

I have been wanting a full bottle of Pilot's Iroshizuku ink for the longest time and, thanks to them, I now have one. Just the bottle alone is stunning and is in a class by itself. Then there is the color they chose for me, Yama-Budo (what the Goulet Pen Company is translating as Crimson Glory Vine). It is a magenta that I probably would not have ordered for myself but that truly would have been my loss because the color is striking and I love it. Unfortunately, my awful snapshots do not do this ink color justice. The flow is just wet enough to help make the nib glide across the paper.

I cannot thank Mary Lou and Phil enough for this wonderful gift. Smile

Are the C&S Soaps that much better than other soaps that they are worth such a premium price? The refill alone is selling for $38. I have to admit that I have not tried a C&S Soap mostly due to the price.

I'm on he hunt for another Cobra.

I have a preference for the old script on the base.

I intend to re-plate it (in rose gold), so I don't see the sense in buying it buy new.

I'm open to trades, but prefer to purchase outright.

I understand there is currently strong interest in the Cobra and my chances will no doubt be better when the Cobra 2 is released (which I presume will be within the first half of next year).

Good evening, gentlemen. I would like to pass along the following fine brushes and razor. All brushes are either new or appear as new (or very good vintage condition, regarding the razors) and could make great gifts to others (or yourselves)!

Please contact via PM with questions, requests for item details or pictures, and offers. Items sold as-is and described to the best of my ability. No warranty is implied, and I am not responsible for items lost or damaged in shipping. Prices include PayPal payment, shipping and tracking by USPS. Offers from members outside the States are welcome.

Elite Razor Desert Ironwood with WSP High Mountain White two-band - $97 shipped. SOLD This is my favorite brush and it will be hard to see it go. Fantastic craftsmanship, finishing and weight to this very dense wood. The best looking handle to my eye with some of the very best ergonomics for face or bowl lathering. Lee at WSP offered these knots for a limited run and they sold out quickly, for good reason. If you find yourself looking for the nexus of a top-shelf silvertip (finer hairs, deliciously soft tips) and the backbone that a two-band badger offers, this is what you are looking for. 24 x 48 mm knot. Only used a few times and looks new. Will ship with original packaging.

Interestingly, desert ironwood only grows in the washes and valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation, takes about 2000 years to mature and actually sinks in water. Today the Seri Indians make carvings of desert plants and animals from the ironwood. Desert Ironwood was the original choice of material for the grips of the Colt .45 handgun.

Ever-Ready 150 Silvertip - $42 shipped. SOLD Polished handle, a bit more weight and restored with a nice 26mm silvertip knot set at 49mm. A very comfortable and handsome handle. Very small gouge that did not polish out on the backside, otherwise great shape. Only used a few times but looks new.

Semogue 2012 Owner's Club Special Edition - $62 shipped. TWO SOLD but may be willing to offer my last new backup for saleBrand-new, unused. Only removed from brush tube to photograph for you and only selling a backup. This is one of my very favorite brushes after using and owning 100+.

Muhle 25mm Silvertip Fibre (Version 2) in faux horn - $68 shipped. SOLD PENDING FUNDS One of my most favorite brushes and certainly the best synthetic. Incredibly soft tips, great backbone (but not scrubby, just luxurious), no springiness of version 1 in addition to the ability to whip up the fastest, highest quality lather from the least product that you've ever seen. Hand-tied knot and a beautiful faux horn handle. Looks as new and will ship in original packaging.

Shavemac Silvertip Beehive in faux ivory - $79 shipped. This is the 2013 LE made for The Shave Nook and is #19/100. Bernd was kind enough to hand-select a fantastic 23mm knot and set it a bit lower, per my request, at 48-49mm. I've tried a few other examples of this brush and of Shavemac silvertip, and this is certainly the best example I've seen. Actually, this is the best silvertip brush I've ever used, comparing with all the major names you are thinking of, and will be hard to let go. Perfect bulb set a bit lower gives you the backbone you want without any sacrifice of flow-through. Soft, white tips without any scrub. Looks as new and will ship in original packaging.

GEM Flying Wing "Bullet Tip" in gold - $16 shipped. SOLD In very good to excellent shape and includes the original case. Some areas of the gold plating show a bit of wear (top of the head and knob at the bottom) but certainly nothing serious. GEM SE's are some of my most favorite razors, but I just prefer the more aggressive ones. I think this is a great one to try that will satisfy a majority of shavers.

Gillette Old Type travel kit in gold - $48 shipped. SOLD Includes a Gillette Old Type razor that has had the typical handle crack stabilized professionally, blade holders with original blades, shave stick travel tube, brush travel tube and original Gillette horse hair travel brush with a loose knot. The razor is not original to the set. The top of the leather case is separated from the case, but the bottom is in very good condition.

All are in very good to excellent condition with very light use. The top cap has couple of scratches and the SB base plate has a few as well. They are not easy to notice though.

What was your soap or cream of the day ?

$

I have searched through about a dozen or so pages of this portion of the Shave Nook about soaps and creams and I have not seen a thread of this nature which surprised me. I love seeing what others are using and it inspires me to try new products or revisit some that I have neglected for some time that are in my nook. So the big question and to save some space I consolidated it into one thread what was your soap or cream of the day ?

What blade did you use today and how many times ?

$

Another popular question among wet shavers is what blades are we all using and how many uses are we getting out of these blades ? The obvious steel wool beard vs. the baby soft beard doesn't play a factor here as it is just a general curiosity question, but feel free to include your hair type as well. This may actually help point people to a good blade to try out !
