Gents,

Chime in which one you like the most and what you are using. I am looking at all three of them and would like to hear the pro's and cons for using each with the head.

Thanks!

FS: Barbasol Floating Head and Le Coq

$

I am offering two uncommon razors for sale. Payment via Paypal, shipping within the US is free.

The first is a Barbasol Floating Head. I bought this from a member of a different forum for $25 and am asking the same. The razor is definitely user grade, and I would caution that it might not make a good replate candidate. The reason is the pitting of the guard bars, which I have tried to demonstrate in the photos. I have been told but have no proof that the heads on these razors were cast from a zinc alloy and are prone to this sort of wear. I talked to someone who has refurbished quite a few of these razors (but didn't show him photos of this particular razor), and he sees this quite a bit. Alternately, this could just be the way the chrome has flaked off of the guard bars. I think the top cap could be replated successfully, as it is just brassed. All that being said, the razor is in perfect working order and shaves just like the nicer one I subsequently acquired. If you just want to see what this razor is all about, here is your chance. The shave is incredibly efficient and smooth. This is also a very solid, hefty razor and impressive to hold. $25

SOLD The second razor is a Le Coq open comb from France, included with case. This razor is in good shape, with very subtle wear noted along the edges of the top cap and slight marks on the handle. I also consider this more of a user grade razor, but definitely on the nicer end of user grade. It provides a fairly aggressive shave, on the order of a Joris, not quite the 2011 R41. The construction of the razor (materials, fit and finish) is not to the level of my other French razors, like Leresche and Kirby Beard & Co. The metal used on the base plate (with the comb) is lighter and thinner than I thought it would be from the photos. That being said, this is an interesting razor, and I thought someone else might like to give it a try. There is one wrapped blade in the box. I am asking $35. SOLD

Anyone want a GD208 Straight Razor to chop up or whatever?

Customer dinged the edge very badly, sent it in for me to repair. Got about 3/4 of the chip gone, decided it wasn't worth my time to do anymore work on it and just sent him a new one instead.

Yours for the low, low cost of S&H, $5.15 plus paypal fees.

Good for doing MyCarver or Seraphim like GD transformation or horrible Frankenstein like experiments. Or I suppose you could put the time in it and get it to shave ready too.

My new Feather AS-D1

I am posting this quickly and will flesh the post out later once I shave with the razor tomorrow.

My quick impression of the razor. It is flawless with oh-so tight tolerances. I was worried what it would feel like compared to my (now sold) milled/machined SS iKon razors. Even though it is sintered (vs milled) it is incredibly smooth to the touch. After holding both the Feather AS-D1 and the iKon OSS ... well, it is no comparison. The OSS has sharp corners and edges, while the AS-D1 does not. The AS-D1 just feels better than the OSS. Putting a blade in the AS-D1 was simplicity itself. Everything just lines up perfectly. I am okay having sold the OSS today. The OSS isn't a bad razor (so I've heard - I haven't shaved with it) by any means, but the extra cost of the Feather seems justified.

Next comes the real test...the shave.
Same Bat time, same Bat channel.

Well....she landed:)

Phil from the Classic Edge was also nice enough to throw in a 3" bridle table strop because he didn't want "the new guy" cutting his hanging one. Pure class I tell you. Can't say enough about him/them.

Soooooo......post first shave report:

- You all have the dexterity of super humans. Building ships in bottles should be a prerequisite skill for shaving with a straight!!!

- I needed a Whiskey and a cigarette post shave as I have never been more focused in my entire life. I used to throw people out of planes for fun.....I think I was more nervous today then on my first skydive.

- I'm guessing three months before I figure out how to shave anything other than my cheeks with some form of proficiency, specifically the left side!

- One tiny nick is all I have to show:)

- Cleanup with a my DE was required, but funny enough I noticed that my trouble spots were waaaaay easier. A by product of lather sitting on them for the better part of an hour I assume ;)

All told, quite happy with how it went and I can't wait to do it again, and again......and again:)

Rooney Heritage Stubby 1 Super Silvertip *** SOLD ***

Gentlemen,
This is the highly coveted Rooney Heritage "Stubby" 1 in super silver tip. It was my travel brush, but the past few months my travel has been limited, a day here and two there. So the brush has seen probably no more than two weeks of work. Since I also have another brush I use for travel, I'll pass this on.
The brush is a sweet little thing, in 22 mm, with hearty backbone and silky tips. No scratchy brushes for me, no, sir. The brush easily fits into the Simpson travel tube. I paid $129 for it. You may have it for $105 U.S. shipped. Paypal is fine. Thanks.

Travel kit.. harder than I thought

$

Over the past few months I have refined my inventory to only items that I know work for me, and work well. I did my best to sever sentimental attachments.

What is left is a pretty efficient set of kit. About ten razors and a dozen brushes.

I am going to be spending a weeks vacation in a hotel and am giving thought to what I would bring. It's a whole lot harder when there are so many good candidates.

I've narrowed it down a bit.

Software..
I thought that was the easiest. Sticks. Right now a stick of Arko and Speick are ready to go. Will I take both or just one? Not sure.

Brush(es)..
A little harder. It's one of three brushes. Omega Mighty Midget, my Rudy Vey custom travel and the B&B Essential Boar. The B&B is at the end of the order and bottom of the list. The Mighty Midget could be a good choice. I have it only a week or so. It's inexpensive and I don't have to worry about losing it, but it isn't broken in yet and committing to a week with it? Not sure about that. The RV has gone with me on a few trips and it's a proven commodity. Two band finest TGN with a travel tube. It would impossible to not enjoy it. But do I go with the underdog and take the Omega?

Razor(s)..
I have been loving the Feather system. I'll have a fair amount of time on my hands so I could really drag a shave out if I wanted to, so I am pretty sure I will bring the Feather Dx. But we'll have at least one or two early mornings and it would be nice to whip through a shave or skip it all together. I was thinking I might bring the EverSharp SE and make it an all SE week. Or maybe the OSS for flexibility?

Alum..
I have a travel block from AoS.

Post..
Just going to bring a trial size bottle of GFT Skin Food in Extracts of Lime.

Maybe it's not as complicated as I thought...

I have recently acquired a vintage Kent brush (V Series ?) and would appreciate any feedback on it's potential age, approximate manufacturing date and model name/number, etc.... The dimensions I was given were handle height 50mm, 21-22mm knot .

I've asked Kent UK at email: info@kentbrushes.com for help but no reply as yet. I know some of you have had success receiving info from Kent so if you could recommend a particular person and their email address that may better to contact directly that would also be very appreciated.

Stropping for newbs questions (Video)

Well I figured why wait. Had my first shave which went well all things considered and now I have a few questions in regards to stropping.

I plan on sticking to my board strop for a while until I can get proficient before venturing into my hanging strop.

Question:

Assuming I dull the edge past "shave ready" while learning to strop, once technique improves can it be brought back with good technique? Tools at my disposal are my board strop, balsa loaded with CrOx and the felt portion of my hanging strop.

First attempt video:

I do have free a free honing option from where I purchased the blade, so even if I botch things it'll all be in the name of learning.

Non-Tallow Soaps Stepping Up

$

Lately I've been getting my favorite lathers from non-tallow based soaps. As an UltraLatherer I originally thought only the best tallow super-fatted soaps would work. Through some experimenting with BrianSD we came to the conclusion that pretty much any soap made for shaving (and even some not made for shaving) can make an UltraLather.

While there are certainly some great tallow-based soaps (P.160 being my favorite), I'd like to see who else prefers their non-tallow soaps & how they'd rank their top 5.

Top 5 Non-Tallow:
  1. Martin de Candre - Savon À Raser
  2. Antica Barbieria Colla Bitter Almond
  3. RazoRock LaFamiglia / TFS
  4. Dr. Dittmar
  5. De Vergulde Hand

Good morning everyone! Today I am selling a E2 injector with butterscotch handle, which is in excellent condition and also three unopened packs of original injector blades and a dispenser with 4 unused blades remaining...so 25 blades in total. I am selling these as a package and my price is $30 via Paypal..US only and shipping is included. Thanks for looking!

I am looking to get a straight razor, but the only way that I can justify doing so is if I can get rid of some gear that I no longer use (or that I just don't care for), so here's the deal: I will sell everything for $70 (CONUS Priority Mail shipping included, all non-CONUS folks who are interested will have to PM me first for a possible shipping quote) OR I will trade it all for a straight razor (preferably with a case, but it's not a deal breaker if it doesn't have one) and a leather strop. The razor does not have to be in perfect condition, just shave ready. If you have other offers then let me know and I will consider them.
